Bwindi Impenetrable Forest lives up to its name as a dense and ancient rainforest that has retained its wild and untouched character for centuries. Gorilla trekking requires a reasonable amount of fitness, hiking through Bwindi’s rainforest and the bamboo-covered slopes of the park. It can be a long, tough hike before you catch a glimpse of the gorillas, being guided to within six meters of them. You’re allowed an hour with the gorillas before returning to the base station. Bwindi offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat.

Bwindi covers 32,000 ha with altitudes ranging between 1,160m and 2,607m. The forest is at the edge of the western arm of the Great Rift Valley and is most biologically diverse and home to 120 species of mammals, 346 bird species, 202 butterfly species, 163 tree species, 100 fern species, 27 frog species and rare and endemic species of chameleon and gecko.
